Atlantic cod
Atlantic cod products
The mild flavour makes cod ideal for creamy sauces or as a good opponent in more spicy dishes. The meat separates into large, juicy flakes and has a slightly sweet, but neutral taste. The Atlantic cod has an almost ideal distribution of fat, proteins and calories, is high in selenium, vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids.

Fishery
Our fishing for Atlantic cod can be classed as offshore or inshore fisheries.
Offshore
These products are among our finest and highest quality and in high demand from customers worldwide. Our trawlers, using either trawls or lines, are equipped to process the cod within few hours, ensuring superior quality. Our main offerings include cod fillets, available both with or without skin and pin bones, and shipped to customers once landed. Line fishing is regarded as a very gentle catching gear. These cods are processed as H&G (Headed and Gutted) and frozen within few hours, and shipped to customers once landed.
FROZEN AT SEA
These products are among our finest and highest quality due to the rapid and gentle processing after catch on board our trawlers.
Inshore
Atlantic cod is caught primarily with pound nets by several local fishermen. Our inshore fishing can be divided into 2:
- Traditional inshore fishing with landbased processing. The catch is hauled on board, where the fish are gutted before they are delivered to Royal Greenland's production facilities
- Nutaaq® which is developed in close collaboration with local fishermen:
Nutaaq® cod
With a maximum of 2 hours from sea to freezer, Nutaaq® cod offers a new cod experience. It looks different, it cooks differently, and it tastes just so much better. We call it Nutaaq® – which is Greenlandic for “new”
Processing
Our land-based production facilities rely on a loyal partnership with local fishermen. To ensure the highest quality, it is essential that processing happens as quickly as possible. As a result, we have developed advanced processing methods at our facilities, specifically designed to preserve the quality of freshly caught fish. In close collaboration with local fishermen we have develop Nutaaq® and "Fresh When Frozen".
Our total product range from our land-based production facilities primarily includes fillets, J-cuts and H&G. Additionally, we have a production of salted cod.
The finished products are allocated to customers around the world.
