Work adventure in Canada with the family
Mika Heilmann from Nuuk has moved with his family to live and work across the Atlantic in Newfoundland, Canada.
At Royal Greenland, both personal development and competence development are important priorities, and we work diligently to offer employees at all levels opportunities for this. One option may be to work at one of Royal Greenland's facilities in another country. In addition to being an experience of a lifetime for the individual, such a stay of shorter or longer duration is an important knowledge sharing between departments in a large international organisation.
With the family to Canada
When former crew manager at Royal Greeenland, Mika Heilmann from Nuuk, was offered the position as factory manager at Royal Greenland in Cape Broyle, Newfoundland, Canada, there was no doubt in the family's mind: the opportunity had to be seized. So, Mika, his wife and their two children moved to St. John's, Canada in March 2022.
After the initial settling-in period, it was relatively quick to create a good life for the whole family with a good work-life balance. The couple's eldest daughter is happy to go to school and has already learnt English, while their youngest child is cared for at home. Mika says: 'Of course, there are many practical things to consider when travelling as a family. Fortunately, we work well together and are good at making everyday life work'.
Mika also enjoys his daily work with his English-speaking colleagues and is excited about what the future holds: 'We are here indefinitely, so time will tell what the future holds. I'm certainly happy to have been given the opportunity to get to know more of Royal Greenland outside the borders of Greenland'.
Mika has settled in so well after his first season in Canada that he has accepted a big promotion for the 2023 season, where he will be production manager at Royal Greenland's largest factory 'Old Perlican' in Newfoundland, a factory 5-6 times the size of Cape Broyle.
Royal Greenland's talents travel the world
Mika Heilmann is far from the only Royal Greenland employee who has had the opportunity to work abroad. Royal Greenland has a tradition of offering employees various job opportunities abroad across the group. Jens K.
