Young people gave the best service during the Arctic Winter Games
30 young people, 10 from the coast and 20 from Nuuk, were equipped to provide the best service to the many guests during the Arctic Winter Games.
The young people between the ages of 17 and 21 took part in a course called "Inuusuit Kivitsisussat" (young people should do their bit). The course was part of Royal Greenland's Nanoq – sponsorship of AWG 2016.
The course covered project management, volunteer work and service, Arctic culture, language, the Arctic Winter Games and media knowledge.
“The purpose of the course was to inspire the young people to become aware of what they want in their future lives, and to enable them to provide the best possible service as volunteers during AWG,” said sales director of Royal Greenland's home market Malik Hegelund Olsen.
In order to do their best for the many guests during AWG, and to be prepared for their future education and working lives, the young people learned about personal development, Arctic culture, volunteerism, the media, company visits, English lessons and lectures from different operators in Nuuk such as Nuuk Couture, the magazine ANU-UNA and Kalallit Nunaanni.
Importance of helping each other
One of the young people, 21-year-old Malene Vahl Rasmussen, who volunteered for the course, said that during the course she learned what it takes to provide the best service.
”Everyone attending the course, the teachers and the organisers, were volunteers, which was very motivating. This made you want to help the others and work as a team. I am sure that this was very useful both at AWG and in the future,” said Malene Vahl Rasmussen, a student of Niuernermik Ilinniarfik in Nuuk.
The teachers of the Inuusuit Kivitsisussat course were all business professionals, and from ICC, the national museum, Piareersarfiit, Grønlands Idrætsforbund and Tusagassiornermik Ilinniarfik.
